Cambridge Union

The Cambridge Union is this rather extraordinary institution with the university. Extraordinary for many reasons – it is this incredibly run down building tucked behind the round church in Cambridge, you would honestly not know that it is there, it has the worlds MOST uncomfortable seats but hosts the most wonderful speakers.

Over the year I have listened to the exhead of MI6 discuss terrorism, delighted in Quentin Blake and tonight enjoyed the banter of Rob Brydon among others. It is certainly the lure of Cambridge that brings these people along I am sure. Tonight it was lots of salacious entertainment gossip but sadly we were under charterhouse rules so there will be no blabbing on this blog.

Just a reflection on the marvels of Cambridge.

5 things to know before starting an MBA in Cambridge

Right I thought that it might be worth thinking about the 5 things I wish I’d known before I started this MBA lark, so here goes with the top 5 that spring to mind…..

  1. Go for a great, big, sun filled holiday before you start – The MBA is completely and absolutely engrossing from start to finish, so if you don’t begin in a chilled out, mellow way you don’t stand a chance!
  2. The final term is NOT easier than the first.
  3. Buy a good bike with a giant lock, baskets are not cool to look at BUT they will revolutionise your Shopping experience.
  4. Learn to multi-task in just about every aspect of your life… for instance I can now answer and talk on a mobile phone while cycling, I can also cycle with a brolly (Especially handy skill in the recent rather grim weather), I carry some sort of reading with me and have learnt to scan email, do not be afraid to delete, your inbox will be groaning in a matter of hours.
  5. Everyone on the course is amazing and always looks like they are coping, but don’t be afraid to say when you feel overwhelmed because my bet is, that pretty much everyone else is feeling EXACTLY the same way.

Anyway, that are my top 5 today… the list I think could go on and on… but sometimes you just need to experience it to know.
