small things

Today I have been thinking about the small things that make me smile or feel good or seem like an unsung pleasure. Often they get ignored and we focus on the large, enormous, big splash moments to define what we like.

For instance, I have just plugged my camera battery in for recharging and I love that the light turns off when it is charged. Odd I know but it somehow means that someone in a factory far far away thought in different way from other manufactures who have it flash, turn red and use up more and more electricity than needed. So I really like this innocuous piece of kit.

Earlier today I sat on a hill in Knoll Park, looking at deer and eating an M&S salad, basking in a moment of sunshine. Then trundled down the hill to discover that the deer in the park LURVE crisps, thanks to my buddy who had some inside information. Honestly they eat them right out of your hand. Animals do just have the most calming effect, and it was lovely fun to feed them.

And now I am sitting in my kitchen listening to radio 4 (yep – I have reached that age), sipping wine, the waft of garlic and rosemary from the oven keeps feeling my nose…. hmmm roast potatoes…. friends due in 30minutes…

It has been a great Saturday with no major events but a great sense of how lovely the small things can be.
