About the Australian

And then there was one. This blog started out as a group of displaced Aussies typing away….but rapidly became just me.

I am an Australian who has just completed her 5th year in the Northern Hemisphere. I am in my rapidly disappearing 30′s, I spent a decadent year as an MBA student at Judge Business School, Cambridge University and have gone from Physio to serious-manager type in the NHS. Life is general fab, mostly busy and hopefully occasionally makes for an interesting read!

So thanks for clicking this far, happy reading

  1. Hi,

I’m looking forward to contact somebody that had donne the cambridge mba one year programme for having an informal chat about the programme the life at cambridge and about finincing the mba.

I am in a similar position compared to you. 31 years old, not bussines administration background, etc.

Hoping to receive an answer from you.

  4. Hi, I chanced on your blog on the Cambridge U webpage and quite liked reading it. My name is Ravi & I work as an Engineer with GlaxoSmithKline in Scotland and am presently in the should I/should I not do an MBA state of mind. I have been in the UK for over 2 years now and feel I need a change- a change in career/position/industry/experience…. what all I am not very sure to be honest. Can you tell me what factors to consider while timing, funding and choosing an MBA school? (Alas I haven’t even taken the GMAT yet but plan on starting my preparation shortly). Thanks in advance.

    • Hi Ravi – I hope you are getting some sunshine! The MBA was the most amazing experience….

It can be a way of ‘switching’ careers but at the moment clearly your pre-MBA experience is likely to be worth more.

For me – I essentially wanted a 12month course – that knocked out a lot, and then wanted one for which I had a cultural fit. Really though I would suggest you go along to an MBA fair and that will help narrow your choices, do the GMAT and go from there!

      Hope that helps a bit.

  5. As an aussie who’s lived in the US since 95, its great to take the time to reconnect with fellow expats and say g’day!

I work in health care and live in a fairly rural area of the american midwest. It would be fun to connect more with other aussies, enjoy some good wine and just recharge the australian batteries!

Anyone in the middle part of america, drop me a line. Anyone else..drop me a line also..I’m pretty much the friendly sort….I have to be…I’m an Aussie!

    • Kylie, Thanks so much for your comment. I hope you hear back from someone – who is as equally friendly. Hope you continue to enjoy the blog.

    • Hi Kylie,
I stumbled across this blog and then your post and felt as tho i had to reply! I’m not a true blue aussie but we moved back to the midwest from sydney 18 mos ago and missing anything/everything australian terribly. my son is right now on qantas travelling to surprise his best mate for his 18th – no worries?! just as long as he brings us back our sweet chile and sour cream chips and other goodies on the list all will be good. we are in kc area and husband works in healthcare as well. coincidence? well, maybe but it just seemed too serendipitous and not responding seemed very un-aussie. Cheers!
p.s. Robyn – sorry you didn’t make it Home, hopefully soon tho!
